Immediately when it came, I had to sit down, on my favorite spot - my porch. I love the weight, its solid in feel. The smell of newness, the reality of the book came to life. All my senses came forth, and then my heart gave way to it. I held it, flipped through, and it was too much. I clasped it to my chest and I sobbed. It's validation - I'm "we" are not alone in our crying, our journeys, our victorious survival. This book has done for the benzo warrior, survivor, supporter what had never before been accomplished - this book gives a voice, humanization, a platform that is respectable, classic, professional, quality, reality and hope. - Sallyann Lefevre, West Virginia
I sat and read each story and enjoyed the beauty and presentation of the book. Truly a work of art and I'm glad that it came out beautifully.... It is painful indeed to read, and your constituents wrote clearly about how the drugs that were meant to heal destroyed their health and mental well-being... Their stories and presentations of their works are definitely a highlight and illustrate how to overcome disastrous situations and take the steps to recover and move on with life. - Dolores Jordan, Massachusetts
I got my copy of the book today. I must say this has to be one of the most powerful, emotional, beautiful, and eye opening books that I have ever read. I want to go to everyone's house (in the book) and give them a huge hug. I knew this book would be powerful but holy shit, this is something beyond my wildest dreams. The stories, poems, art, and emotion in this book are beyond words. - Jojo Smedo, Minneapolis
There are some pieces of my art in this book that I never imagined anyone else would ever see or relate to. Before this book, I was ashamed of the art that I made. Through the process of submitting my art, I was able to put years and years of the broken pieces of my story together. I came to better understand my own iatrogenic (doctor induced) injury more and more. Being a part of this has been very healing and validating. - Lynn Norris, North Carolina
I have had Healing from Psychiatry: The Artist’s Perspective for about a week. This book includes works of art from more than 50 contributors who openly and courageously share their journey with psychiatric medication. Healing from Psychiatry includes drawings, paintings, poems, photographs, and essays. The more than 130 pieces are overwhelmingly powerful. The creators of the art open up their hearts and souls. Each and every time I look at the book I am moved to tears by the messages of sadness, despair, hope, and joy. This book is not just for those with a personal connection to psychiatric medication. Individuals and their families and friends who have been wronged in other ways will be just as moved. I strongly encourage adding Healing from Psychiatry: The Artist’s Perspective to your library--Thank you to all of you who bravely share this part of your lives. It will make a huge difference in so many peoples’ lives. - Mark Fairman, Maine
